Spring in Venice: The Magic of the City and the 300th Anniversary of Giacomo Casanova

Spring in Venice

Spring in Venice is a magical time: the city awakens with a special light, the golden reflections on the lagoon become more intense, and the atmosphere is perfect for strolling through the less crowded alleys. But this year, spring also brings an extraordinary event: the 300th anniversary of the birth of Giacomo Casanova.

Giacomo Casanova: a Venetian Icon
Born in Venice on April 2, 1725, Giacomo Casanova is remembered as an adventurer, writer, philosopher, and seducer. His life was a tapestry of travels, encounters, and spectacular escapes, including the legendary breakout from the Piombi, the Venetian prisons, in 1756.

Venice in the 18th century was a crossroads of intellectuals, nobles, and adventurers, and Casanova was one of its leading figures. Palazzo Ruzzini, today home to our hotel, has a fascinating history intertwined with the cultural vibrancy of that era. In the 17th century, the palace hosted the meetings of the Accademia degli Incogniti, a circle of writers and aristocrats known for their libertine ideas and their crucial role in the development of musical theater and the novel. Had Casanova lived a few decades earlier, he would have likely found this environment ideal for his intellectual and social adventures.
