VENICE 1604: ART CELEBRATES GIACOMO CASANOVA AT RUZZINI PALACE

RUZZINI PALACE INCONTRA L'ARTE

On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Giacomo Casanova's birth, Ruzzini Palace is hosting a unique exhibition as part of the VENICE 1604 event, organized by Associazione 604. From March 25 to April 25, visitors will be immersed in an artistic experience that retraces the most famous anecdotes from Casanova’s life through 20 works created by as many artists, ranging from realistic figurative to abstract styles.

A PLACE RICH IN HISTORY
Ruzzini Palace is deeply connected to the history of Giacomo Casanova. The illustrious Venetian, born in 1725, might have been the illegitimate son of nobleman Michele Grimani, owner of the Teatro di San Samuele, where Casanova’s parents worked as actors. This connection makes the exhibition even more evocative, bringing Casanova back, in spirit, to the places of his youth and early experiences in 18th-century Venice.

THE INAUGURATION AT RUZZINI PALACE
On March 25 at 6:00 PM, Ruzzini Palace will host the second of three scheduled inaugurations for the event. In addition to the participating artists, notable attendees will include:

  • Daniele Cellini, President of Associazione NEXT
  • Danilo Leo Lazzarini, actor and historical consultant performing as Casanova
  • Simone De Bortoli, board member and head of NEXT Art
  • Michele Taibi, Vice President of Associazione NEXT
  • Elena Cesca, spice expert offering insights on Casanova
  • Domenico Castaldi, Master of the Atelier Fai Arte in Portogruaro
  • Televenezia, media partner of the event

THE EXHIBITION AT RUZZINI PALACE
At Ruzzini Palace, visitors will have the opportunity to admire four artworks dedicated to the most captivating aspects of Casanova’s life: love, vices, and adventures. Artists Simona Dragomir, Mary Pozza, Stefania Melis, and Daniele Cellini have created a powerful and engaging visual narrative.

A VIRTUAL CASANOVA: ART MEETS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
A distinctive feature of the exhibition is the use of artificial intelligence: each artwork is accompanied by a QR code, allowing visitors to access a special presentation. Giacomo Casanova himself, digitally recreated by artist Eduardo Simonetti and voiced by actor and historian Danilo Leo Lazzarini, will narrate each piece, offering an immersive and innovative experience.

AWARDS AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR ARTISTS
During the event, three selected artists will receive special awards granted by the exhibition’s partners:

Atelier Domenico Castaldi: a solo exhibition for the artist chosen by Master Castaldi.
"From Tradition to the Future" Award: given to the artist who best reinterprets Casanova in a contemporary way.
Televenezia for Art: a dedicated feature on the most outstanding work, broadcast on Channel 80.

AN EVENT NOT TO BE MISSED
The VENICE 1600+ project, launched in 2017 to celebrate Venice’s foundation, continues with its fifth edition, paying tribute to Casanova through art and technology.

The event, organized by Associazione 604 in collaboration with Ruzzini Palace, is free and open to all. An unmissable opportunity to explore the fascinating world of Casanova in one of Venice’s most enchanting locations.
