Primo Violino by Gianluca Migliorino: The Artwork Symbolizing Expressive Freedom and Imperfect Beauty

Gianluca Migliorino, founder and creative director of Migliorino Design, is a contemporary artist with a multifaceted sensitivity. He masterfully blends different forms of art, guided by his spirit of observation and reinterpretation, transforming everyday objects and elements from the collective imagination into evocative symbols.

The artwork Primo Violino, exhibited at Palazzo Ruzzini in Venice in its black and white versions, was created on commission for violinist and orchestra conductor Michael Maciaszczyk, who has collaborated with some of the most prestigious orchestras, including the Wiener Symphoniker and the Munich Radio Orchestra.

Migliorino’s work represents a violin, but not in a traditional sense. The instrument is deconstructed and reassembled in an innovative form, reflecting the infinite nuances of sound and the interpretation of musical art.

The artist’s intention is to celebrate this very essence: the sculptural violin is not merely a physical representation of the instrument but also an exploration of its core. The commas—the minimal differences in intonation between notes—form the conceptual heart of the sculpture. These subtleties, imperceptible to an untrained ear, represent a unique realm of expressive freedom for the violinist.

The absence of frets on the violin allows musicians to modulate intonation with extreme precision, creating an infinite variety of tonal nuances. The fragmentation of the violin symbolizes the nine commas, embodying the character and identity of the player, where the tension between form and content, precision and freedom, translates into the fluidity and emotion of listening.

This artwork is not just a homage to Michael Maciaszczyk and his talent but also a tribute to the very essence of music: an art that finds its beauty in imperfection, evoking universal emotions through the precision of gestures and the unpredictability of interpretation.
